BAMHA 2017

It is a fairly easy winner this year. There were a few contenders ... Hugh Jackman for the ultimate bad ass Wolverine performance in Logan, Charlize Theron for the double bill of Atomic Blonde and Fast & Furious 8, and even Jamie Foxx for his efforts in Sleepless and Baby Driver. There were some other honorable mentions this year, such as Wu Jing in Wolf Warriors 2, a potential action star of the future, Dylan O'Brien, for American Assassin, and finally Frank Grillo for his appearances in Beyond Skyline and Wolf Warriors 2 (if it wasn't such a shit film it would have carried more weight) and his Netflix-produced auto-actioner, Wheelman (which is brilliant, by the way). While three action roles is impressive, it also shows the quality of the productions. Grillo needs to get in better action films to truly contend for this title.

Anyway, none of them can hold a candle to Keanu Reeves in John Wick: Chapter Two. Such a bad ass action hero, and this award goes some way to making up for his 2014 loss to Liam Neeson (Non-Stop and A Walk Among the Tombstones just pipped John Wick to the top spot).

Last year's winner, Mel Gibson, fell off a cliff this year, only releasing Daddy's Home 2. Pathetic, Mel!

Like last year, 2017 has brought a new winner: KEANU REEVES

Runner-up: Frank Grillo (Wolf Warriors 2, Wheelman, Beyond Skyline)

What is a BAMHA?
It stands for Blaine's Action Movie Hero Award.  From 1970 to the present; above is a collection of the winners of the BAMHA for each year.  Now, what makes an action hero, and what entitles that person to the award? An action hero must simply kick the most asses in any given year.  Not with laser-beam eyes or a superhero-engineered suit, or a massive metal club from someone that can fly or transport themselves through different galaxies.  No.  This award is for down-to-earth, muscle and gun bad asses; guys who don’t live by the rules.  Instead, they kick ass and take names.
